AUDIENCE + USER/ PARTICIPANT EXPERIENCE EXERCISES

My audience is the public, whoever has an education in art or not. It can be the security guard at the Foundation, or it can be the curator who is working at the place. I want the audience to enjoy experiencing my work, and for that reason, the aesthetic aspect of my illustration takes a huge part. I asked around in the class how my classmate understand my work without telling the context, and here is what I have received.

  • Looks like window
  • She doesn’t know what it is
  • It is a man alone in a garden, and he looks sad
  • It could be adam before Eve appear
  • The garden looks beautiful, but he is looking at the audience straight alone.
  • Detail is gorgeous
  • The fire looks like red leaves
  • Triptyque
  • Asian-style, because of the fire
  • Jungle, forest, flora, and fauna
  • Different animals, different species, the guy is sad
  • He is clearly sad because everything is burning
  • She likes the center
  • Interaction between a man and nature
  • A human being as the center of the space, but who is inherently influenced by the natural environment that surrounds him
  • Get the balance in sense of freedom, she understands the artwork
  • The juxtaposition between freedom and conflict
  • Contrast between the light and left, this contrast is between peaceful, and harm. The left is burning and the right is peaceful
  • Dynamism, it makes the audience to look everywhere

I asked three students from my class, and the way to take this illustration depends on how they see it. To be fair, I showed my work on the screen, and the illustration is still not finished yet. However, there was still the reaction that I was expecting to receive. It was hard for them to see what the image was about without knowing the context, which makes it clear that description or at least a title is necessary for them to see the work and think about deforestation. The question now is, how could I convince the audience to see this work and think about the Youtube algorithm, without giving visual information on this illustration itself.
