dress practice log- Intro to fashion

Saturday night was the night before my birthday and a couple of other friends planned a small party for me, I’m wearing a silver sequin embroidered jacket, a pair of black bell bottoms and a black top. I chose to wear red lipstick because I was sick of my usual black eyeliner and I already had on residual makeup from earlier in the day, wherein I had a photoshoot for an accapella group that I’m a part of. Imp wearing heels because we were going out and heel make me feel more confident. I chose this jacket because I had actually got it for my birthday and I probably wouldn’t have another opportunity to be as dressed up for another couple of weeks. We were also only going to places that were within a 7 block radius, so I didn’t mind wearing flared pants and heels. I did put on a warmer coat before I stepped out. I don’t think I dressed up to play a role, I just wanted to dress up more than usual given the day and the event planned for the night. I also had on small silver earrings from back home.

My schedule on Monday is light, I have one short lecture on Abnormal Psychology. This Monday was also surprisingly warm. I decided to layer my clothing, in case the weather gets colder. I also tend to not put too much of an effort picking out my clothes on Mondays and Wednesdays because I have only one class at 11:50, and these are the two days wherein I have no 9:00 am classes so I stay up finishing my assignments on Sunday and Tuesday nights. I also don’t exactly try dressing up because I don’t have design or fashion classes on these days, and I find its more acceptable to be dressed casually at Lang than it is at Parsons. I don’t think I play any roles per se, but I do make sure I’m put together enough to be classified a design student.  Here, I’m wearing my Pin stripe pants, a black top and a woolen cape like outer piece. I had on my mother’s earrings before, I took them off in between the day because they can be heavy. I always have a piece of jewelry or clothing from back home, I find that it is a subconscious decision though. I picked these clothes for their comfort, The woolen outer piece makes me feel like I’m wrapped in a hug.

“The creativity must always be seen in relationship to the ordering, as one of the main dynamics in dressing is between novel assemblages and pre-existing aesthetic order.”
