My memory takes place on top of a mountain in the neighboring town from where I grew up. I’ve been to this specific park twice ever: once with my friend Zac who introduced the area to me, trekking in snow for a quarter mile, and the last time a little less than a month ago, where I visited one last time before I left for New York with my friend Jasmine.
The state park was much more pleasant in the summer than it was this past cold March. It was inundated with a healthy shade of green, with mainly yellow and purple flowers.
Because my memory of choice was quite recent, I had taken many pictures of the flowers and the view (something I rarely do when I’m enjoying nature)
Yellows and purples meant the most to me for this memory— it was all I saw when I closed my eyes and tried to relive it.
For my Memory Placeproject, I decided to build a bench similar to the one Jasmine and I had sat and laid down on, talking for a few hours. The silhouette of us is filled with a collage of photos I took on that day.
.
I used cardboard for the bench because I’m not comfortable using wood yet (this is my first project ever constructing a physical thing?), acrylic to paint the cardboard, and photos that I took around a month ago.
