Bridge Project 1: Memory Cards

For my bridge project, I decided to do card sized digital collages that are composed of images I directly associate/relate to my chosen memories.

In my set of cards are five memories: one from my family trip in Labuan Bajo, Indonesia, one from a party in 2016, one from a concert I went to this past June, one from an impulse trip to NYC, and one from a train ride from London to Edinburgh.

  1. Labuan Bajo

In early July of last summer (2017), my family went on a 3 night boat trip around the tiny islands of Indonesia. Being Indonesian, none of us had been out on the seas of our country like that before. After a day of hiking and snorkeling, I had taken a shower and sat at the front of the boat with my speaker. I specifically remember the song Stargirl Interlude playing as I watched the pale yellow moon reflect onto the dark waters of the Pacific. In the background, was the most grounding experience I had witnessed: millions of bats migrating from one island to another as the sun hit the horizon.
  2. Friends in 2016

4 weeks in to Uni, and it’s natural to already miss my friends. My happiest memory with them is from 2016, when we used to not have many obligations and in turn, go out almost every weekend.
  3. Kendrick Lamar Concert

I have been to many concerts in the past, and Kendrick isn’t even my top artist of choice. But this memory is so surreal to me because of the sky, weather, and atmosphere of the concert. TDE did an arena tour, and I went to the Hershey Park show with my friend Jasmine. It was supposed to be raining that day, and instead drizzled. After the anticlimactic storm, the sky turned from a vibrant purple to a pink/peach sky in the most beautiful way. The weather felt perfect: not too humid, and the right temperature. I specifically remember looking at the skyline of the rollercoasters in the background and feeling my heart grow so big.
  4. Easter in Brooklyn

In 2018, Easter landed on April Fool’s day. My friend Zac and I decided to go visit our friend Josefine, who is a third year student at Pratt. We impulsively packed our bags and drove to New York from Pennsylvania on the night of March 30th, and it was very unlike me back then. I am forever glad I did it, Zac was a relatively new friend of mine and has never seen New York through the lens of a regular visitor. I just remember being with him for a whole weekend and having a refreshing, exciting adventure.
  5. A1 Train to Edinburgh.

I spent New Years Eve 2016 in Edinburgh. Before this trip, I had never taken a plane by myself before, and I went all the way to London (with a 7 hour layover in Manchester) alone. I had never been to Europe before, and I immediately fell in love. I took the A1 train from King’s Cross Station to Edinburgh, Scotland. The A1 train runs along the east coast of Great Britain, facing Denmark. I just remember feeling so emotional and on the verge of tears staring out of the huge glass windows. I also remember listening to the entire Pure Heroine album for the entire 4 hours on the train.

I decided to try block printing for the back design of my cards.

I printed the digital collages on Fawn bookmaking paper, and simply made a double sided card by gluing the prints together.
