On the night of the UN trip, I’ll admit that I was less than excited to wait in a long line outside in order to sit an listen to what I thought would be a relatively standard talk about sustainability. However I did take away some new thoughts on sustainable design and mostly the awareness of how our world created more or less opportunities for different people and in different places. Our environment and how we treat it/ how it treats us is one of the things that connects all people everywhere, and there is a significant amount of displacement when it comes to the awareness of these effects. Although the conversation seemed to swerve away from the topic of design and sustainability at times, and I was disappointed with the wait time in comparison to the amount of time actually spent inside the UN, I did find the experience unique and exciting overall. The performance at the end really felt like the best way to wrap up the conversation, combining art and expression with the all important message of planetary care and clean up, and ending things off on a hopeful note.
