One of the exhibits we had to visit was a room full of textiles. This one sparked my interest because I love astronomy and the stars. They are always there. This one is of the Milky Way, which is very special to me. Every 3 years, my family travels to Hawaii from Atlanta, GA, to observe the stars with astronomers. The very first time we went, my dad, brother, and I laid in an elementary school parking lot and saw the entire Milky Way. It was one of the clearest skies in years apparently, in a tiny state in the middle of the ocean at an elementary school miles from any light pollution.
I’ve come to the Allure of Science and Color exhibit probably 3 or 4 times, and I ALWAYS love this piece. It’s a light mobile that is covered in bugs and butterflies of different colors and textures. Its so whimsical. It inspires me to think of 3D aspects to place in my zine. I’m mostly a 2D artist and I have to stretch myself mentally and artistically to work in 3D. I love this because it has a lot of things that interest me or are important to me: butterflies, color, and its own distant theme.
This is from the Schloten and Baijings: Lessons from the Studio exhibit. There were 3 buckets of textures and colors that were to be placed on little interactive color and texture identifying activities. Mentally and artistically, this exhibit really grabbed me because I love design and understanding schematic elements of designing. I took this picture of textures to actually be my phone background because I loved how they have something interactive and they trust the museum attendees to not steal the part of their exhibit. Its very trustworthy and they’re trying to teach people to learn. This is going to help me with my zine because it’s challenging me to think of placement, layout, and the schematic elements of the zine.
