John Zorn – Khebar

What I find interesting about our world is that there are so many distinctly different cultures, yet we are still able to find commonalities and are able to combine and mix these cultures in different ways. Every culture has its own food, traditions, clothing, and music. In John Zorn’s performance of “Khebar”, I find it very interesting that he was able to play Jewish sounding music but at different times, it almost sounded like music from another culture. One example o this that stood out to me was during the earlier part of the performance, I thought it almost sounded like they were playing Latin music. I think the ability to combine distinctly different cultures and ideas into something new is very interesting and very relevant today. For me, I was born in the US and I consider myself American but my parents are from different countries and I consider the places they come from and their cultures as my own. I think that this performance very accurately and creatively expresses the Jewish culture and their experience in a new and meaningful way.
