Tribeca: Triangle Below Canal St. – City Hall – Battery Park
It’s already said a million times but New York City is the most dynamic city anyone can think of. People travel hear from all over the world and if you’re given as little as a couple hours, you can visit famous places and experience New York’s atmosphere. Even though I know that I live in this city, I have to tell myself everyday that I’m actually here. I have these realizations that appear out of nowhere that I’m attending school in one of the most sought out places in the world. But New York wasn’t just made famous by certain people or parts of our history but it is consistently relevant in our daily news and other forms of entertainment, specifically movies. I can’t even begin to imagine how many films took place in this city. Not to mention, the other day I even saw a scene being filmed in Washington Square Park.
Listening to this audio tour and following along helped me realize to what extent New York takes place in our movies. I followed along to see buildings, benches, and parks that actors stood in and directors filmed in to create moveis that I could look up right now, at this moment, and watch. Just listening to the tour also made me aware of movies that I’ve never heard of but sound interesting and exciting. Movies that were filmed all the way to around World War 2 were filmed on these streets and it’s strange to think about how old, yet lively this city is. For years it’s had movies and TV shows filmed or set here which is surprising to hear considering the fact that Hollywood would seem like the likely option. But after thinking about it for a while, I realized that the directors chose to film in this city because of its atmosphere and dynamic that can’t be replicated.
I was especially surprised to visit the places that I have seen in the movies because these scenes weren’t filmed in a room that was set up in Hollywood to mimic the place, but there were filmed in a room that was actually in this building. I really enjoyed listening to the parts about the movie Enchanted because I remember watching it when I was younger and I was mesmerized by the princess and her prince that she found in this major city. It’s strange to think that so much has already happened and to know that there will definitely be more to come.
