Bridge 4: Final Studio Piece

Hollywood Habits

Our Bridge 4 Assignment was to create our final piece of the Integrative Studio 2 course. We had been curating a caché throughout the semester, so when it came to choosing our final topics, we reflected on each assignment and revisited our interests. I wanted to create a piece that explored and questioned iconic Hollywood photographs and images. Whether that be in context to the gender, race, or class portrayed. After completing many versions I came to my final piece of the series below. It is a series of three images, that range in visibility and blurred view. I intended for this to spark thought and conversation regarding the topics of beauty, vain, vision, perception and ideals of the 21st century. As you can see, the woman is holding an iPhone in her hands and is looking at herself in a selfie, while situated in front of a vanity mirror. This was supposed to set a dystopian mood in that we have become so consumed with our image and portrayal, which unfortunately, is not that far off from society.
