Pant Project:
Designing a pant for a partner was an exciting project starting off this second semester. It has been one of the more technical projects that I have done learning new techniques such as how to put a fly zipper in and side pockets. During this project my ideas were constantly changing. It started off with a high waisted 60s inspired pant, that then turned into something more edgy with straps that wrap around the legs, but ended up being a military tope colored pant. This just happened naturally but I rolled with it. Luckily my partner for this project said that I could do anything and that I could pretty much decide what the pant can look like which was super fun. Sadly I ran into some trouble. First the straps that go around the legs were too heavy. So I was only able to put 2 in the front and nothing around the back due that it was weighing the pants down. Second the inside of the pants could not have flat felt seams cause the fabric from the straps was making it to hard to wrap. In addition to that the flat felt seams could only be on the side of the pant due to the fact the sewing machine would not reach the middle seams of the pant. This added a lot of time that was not expected making these pants. Even though I enjoyed this project I am not as happy as I could be with the final finish due to the fact that the inner seams are still raw. If I could do this again I would try and re use the over lock machine and see if someone could give me addition help. But since I cut the seams for the pants I was not able to use it. In the end I think that the pants were still interesting and I loved the colors. I think that this was a great learning experience from me and If i could work some of the kinks out of these pants It could be super cool.
