He choose a women who can embody his clients Gloria Vanderbilt. Gloria Vanderbilt is a renaissance women doing everything.  She is a model, designer, actress, and fashion icon. She lives a very personal life and during the 60s had a huge following of women who inspired to be her. Richard Avedon is the famous photographer who was chosen for this photograph. He used his famous studio technique creating negative space. This was typical of Richard Avedon during the 60s and became some of his most iconic work. He enjoyed catching the models in some sort of motion but even though this image was practically a portrait represents 60s fashion photography during this time.
