Final Project

Brief intro

It's an outfit inpired by deconstructing my musline pieces, and the color pattern from my previous research. It includes a blazer as the outwear and a silk organza dress to match underneath. My idea is to evoke a sensory feeling while wearing the pieces. Therefore, I chose a smooth and light outwear tech-fabric, and paired it with chiffon and slik orgenza. Since I put delicate fabric on the attchments of the clothing such as sleeves and collar, it creates volumes and renders a much masculine form.

Connection with Seminar

The process of making clothing in Studio class and the process writting research paper in Semiar class are closly related. It was in Seminar that inspired my big topic for my design- Gender. In Seminar I talked about How fashion perlicurly in dressing affects gender equlity issue. I mentioned about the Times Up Movement,"When Jessica Chastain was wearing a black slogan t-shirt, leaving Jimmy Kimmel Live studios, She was a living mannequin, using fashion as an armoer to defense herself." Nowadays, women dressed up to speakup their voices. It was the usage and the form of the blazer that intrigued me. A piece that originated designed for men that now every chic girl has to own one. Meanwhile women is manipulating different styles of blazer, and rendering this piece new meanings. We no longer scared by the masculine shape that boraden our shoulders, or the oversizing silhouette that covers our curves. form that point, I wanted to combine a important aspect that often imposes on traditional female clothing- sensory, and a novel ideal dressing- menswear, to creat an outfit that is modern and influencial.

Self Reflection

As a first year international student, this is my first fashionproject. In the process of making and exploring, there were striggles and frustration. Nonetheless I had known myself more clearly. My work is a way of expression of who I am. As what i wrote in my paper, I see fashion is not only about clothing, but a unseperable expression of your identity, experience, and beliefs. This is the first garment that I developed, sew into pieces, and presented on my very own idea. I am glad that I had this outfit as my start of my fashion college career. I see this as a start and I am exploring continusly.
