Time Cinemagraph

The goal for this project was to make a cinemagraph, a gif in which you can’t tell where the clip starts or ends.

I got inspired by the “why feel slow motion during crisis” reading. Even though the moment I chose to portray is not a crisis, it still feels like time is slowing down when waiting for something. Because waiting can feel like forever sometimes, I chose to portray the waiting for laundry. I purposely staged the scene with a girl playing on her phone, and the clock next to her, which isn’t moving. I made it black and white to support the feeling of forever.

In Photoshop, I imported the clip frame to layers and I ended up having 166 frames. I then made a mask around the spinning washing machine, so that only that part of the frame moves and everything else is completely still.

After that I had to change the time of each frame so that there wouldn’t be any delays and the gif runs smoothly.

After that, I had the choice to repeat or reverse the frames but I chose not to do any of that and my gif was done.
