Drawing/Imaging: People – Written Reflection

Charlotte Waltz-Rieber, Growth, digital drawing

Attending the New School is an extraordinary opportunity to gain an education, learn life lessons, and form new relationships. I intend to use my college career to to grow as both a student and an artist, and to prepare for a future I hope to one day build. In order to best do this, I will approach my classes with a strong work ethic, an open mindset, and a determined attitude. With the high demands and expectations of college classes, effective time management skills will be a significant factor in my success. Practicing these skills will allow this class, Drawing/Imaging: People, to give me a strong foundation for classes and learning experiences to come. In class, engaging in discussions and critiques will allow my ideas to build on others’ ideas while I gain new knowledge and insight. I hope to hear many unique perspectives and thoughts from both my peers and professor, and by communicating my reactions and ideas, I can contribute to a supportive learning environment. I hope the integrative methods and techniques I will be taught will improve my ability to compose, develop, and execute concepts that visually communicate original and meaningful ideas. My main goal as an artist is to create art that invokes feeling and starts a conversation. If I approach this class with that goal in mind, I believe even the simplest of technical skills I learn will build on one another to ultimately give me the foundation necessary to continue growth outside this class.
