JUMBLE – Collaborative Riso-Zine

experimental picture book (1)

This collaborative zine, made with Isabella Wachsler, gives viewers an intimate look into the personalities and thoughts of the artists. We describe this zine as essentially a “brain barf,” but this brain barf was organized in a very intentional way to allow readers to follow ideas, make connections, and ponder upon their own “brain barf” thoughts. While we used color to create a clear division between artists, my work being in red and Isabellas in blue, our individual pieces only function fully when in relation to one other. The combination of different ideas serve to compare and contrast our personalities, developing two parallel stories at once. Oftentimes during the creative process, we responded to each others work by drawing on top of each other’s pieces and elaborating on one another’s thoughts. We collaborated for several hours at a time for several days in order to make a piece that has cohesive themes and remains a genuine, authentic display of our individual artistic tastes. For visual cohesion we worked in similar graphic styles, and played around with the balance of colors on each spread. Overall, collaborating with Isabella proved to be an immense opportunity- we were able to enhance each others work through the conversation of our pieces. We went on to sell copies of JUMBLE through Lucky Risograph Printing and through our individual social medias.
