Reflection
What the videos about “the city of tomorrow” made me realize was that we have all the technology and resources to make our present that “tomorrow”. The videos show how world problems are being solved with innovation, designers redefining the challenges, and acknowledging all the bad and good that the environment has to face by new designs, constructions, technology, and the population. Technology plays a big role in our life, yet it’s eye-opening how technology can also serve the environment and give access to the designers in order to build in smarter ways, now, a good design arises with good software.
One of the examples was elevators in one of the tallest buildings in Dubai were instead of using power to run the elevator, the elevator works as a power generator. Even if the elevator design is “new” we still have cars that don’t need fuel, solar power, incredible ways to transform our waste into fertilizer, and even data analysis that makes the police department extremely efficient. I personally think that we are already in that tomorrow, if we keep supporting designs, products, buildings, and ideas that are socially and economically sustainable, then slowly any city will merge into “the city of tomorrow”.
