As an 18-year-old artist reflecting on how my previous work relates to my work of Seminar and Studio of this semester, I can see a strong thematical and material relation. Such as the theme of my artwork I showcase of my portfolio, all carry the theme of contrast, opposites, and negatives. This on a metaphorical and literal way. My sculptures usually were with based on a solid color and most of them were all geometrical in away. The mediums I’ve been using for a long time and continued to do so in studio class was the use of cardboard and foam. My themes, on the other hand, are all related to what I believe and think, yet it could be on different aspects, Usually about opposite ideas, existence, contamination, or my childhood. In my investigation of artists, I have always been interested in controversial artists, in this case, I like how it gives you a new perspective that society tried to avoid which makes you question why do some people accept it and others don’t. The message behind my work is to show life and how everything doesn’t really make sense or matter, I also touch on the themes of the death of oneself or overall confusion.
