For my project, I have decided to choose working with the public transportation In New York. Growing up in Tokyo, my experience with taking the subway was that it was always a streamline, efficient, and peripheral process. It is abnormal in Tokyo to not take the subway every day at least once, and so public transportation has always been a prominent aspect of my life. When I came to New York for the first time, another city with a large public transportation system, I instantly found myself stunned in admiration at how vastly superior the metro system is in Tokyo. I first noticed the complete lack of sanitation that the metro system in NYC has. Almost every station is littered with trash and grime, making one’s first impression of the train system immediately unattractive. This would be easy for me to overlook, as I am not usually a stickler for unkept places, if the train lines themselves functioned properly. Using the subway I frequently was subjected to late train times and unpredictable schedules. To me, an outsider, the public transportation in New York is a complete mess that is both inefficient and unattractive. This is why I would like to make a project that addresses this issue and will hopefully make the process of taking a train in New York a more desirable experience.
