Study of a Crab
Elana Farrell
This pen study of a crab utilizes detail and repetition to explore concepts such as anxiety, fixation, trance, and meditation. Inspired by scientific illustrations, the artist blurs diagrammatic accuracy with fantasy.
I did this pen drawing when I was exploring concepts such as anxiety, fixation, repetition, trance, and meditation. The image is made up of only small circles which create the illusion of line and shape due to their density and proximity to one another. I was inspired by scientific illustration, and the blur between diagrammatic accuracy and fantasy, also playing with scale as a tool. If you look closely, you might be able to see faces in the shell.
