This piece is inspired by microorganisms such as diatoms and bacteria found in marine environments. The muted color palette as well as the repeated forms give a sense of tranquility and isolation to the depiction of  microorganisms that live at the bottom of the sandy ocean floor.

This piece is loosely inspired by microorganisms found in marine environments such as diatoms and bacteria. I was thinking about different phenotypes of bacteria and imagining what it might look like for members of different colonies to interact on an ocean floor. I enjoyed the repetition involved in drawing many identical microorganisms, and the reductive process of removing paint from the background in order to create the effect of light meandering through the water to eventually hit the sandy bottom of the ocean floor.
