Bridge 1 Artifact

The sculpture I created for bridge one is a tent with broken glass inside. The tent is made of a colourful towel and represents the wonder and happiness the shelter of my childhood home brought me. When I got out of the pool at my childhood home and put on a towel I would feel safe and warm, that’s how the house made me feel. However, the love I had for the house blocked me from realizing what was really happening within it. That’s why inside the tent is painted broken glass. The broken glass represents the broken relationships within the house and it is painted to accentuate the flowers on the glass. Flowers were a big part of my childhood and were always everywhere in my house. The painted broken glass also represents how everything looked perfect from the outside but when you looked closer was really broken. To create this sculpture, I first hot glued three wooden dowels together to make the tent. I then cut the towel to the right size so that it would drape over the dowels but not swallow them. I also found three glass cups at Goodwill that had a flower design on the outside. I safely broke the glasses into pieces and painted the flowers and stems. I painted the flowers pink because my mom always loved having pink flowers. Her favourite type of flower to have in our backyard was bleeding hearts which are pink. Painting the flowers on the glass pink reminded me of those.

Presentation/Critique Day

I think if I were to improve my final product, I would like if the towel had the photo of us jumping into the pool printed or projected on it.
