Feedback from the presentation

Upon discussing with peers, we realised that making something that would grab people’s attention would be the key here. We took a vote on which option would be best to move forward and decided on creating a huge sized tangram on the ground so that people can move around the pieces and play.

Implementation

The final puzzle was 44″x44″. We used cardboard pieces and colored paper for our prototype.

After creating the pieces, we went to the park for installation. We tested out our prototype on four different locations and noted down the observations.

This is the presentation deck we prepared for the entire process and observations. –

Reflections

Throughout the process, one thing I realised was that we needed to be extremely patient every step of the way. The location we chose, Washington Square Park, is especially unpredictable and dynamic. Timing and luck played a great role in shaping the outcome of the experiment. People were more interested when they already saw a crowd around the set up. We were able to anticipate quite a bit of challenges we faced during implementation and improvise the plan accordingly. Testing it out at different locations gave me great insights on the park, the types of people who come there and their mindsets. Through all the challenges, minor injuries while preparing the pieces, frustrations during implementations, we did have a lot of fun and learnt a lot.
