Hybrid Object

In making my hybrid object, I came across a few different ideas. I decided at first on using objects made from gold, and settled on my favorite object from the museum, a mask from early North America. After that, I went through a process of sketching and understanding my first object, and trying to think of ways I could combine it with another in a successful way. I considered using a gold plate with an intricate design I found appealing, as well as a few other gold objects, but eventually settled on constructing my object around the idea of identity and facial structures. For this concept I decided it was best to incorporate European coins I had found in the eyes of the mask, creating a contrast between two very different cultures and their ideas of identity.
