[Integrative Studio 1] Project #1 : What I saw remembered, dreamed…

 

 

As we live, we encounter, sense and feel so many things, information, contacts and feelings,  and some becomes important part of ours while some others just by pass and become forgotten.

 

<Part A : Recording>

In the first week, the project just asked me to do this “simple looking” recording work.

I recorded the things I saw, heard, touched, smelled, dreamed and remembered,

which I found very difficult in deed.

There were too much I missed, There were too much I could not express well in the paper for the senses and dreams were often too delicate and quick.

<Part B : Brainstorming & Developing>

With the records gathered from last week I started to do idea-brainstormings

 

 

and these processes made me to ponder upon questions like

‘What reminds me of something?’ or ‘when do get I reminded of something?’

Then I was suddenly struck by a memory when I  passed by the same station listening to the same musicfor everyday for quite long time. When I heard that particular music at different place, I was reminded of the station, and friend who always accompanied me. I believe everyone has this kind of experience, where certain things becomes a cue for bringing certain memories up.  For me they were fragrances, sounds and sights.

With these ideas, I started the prototyping

 

 

and ended up with the thought that scent is a medium that brings us to the moment I remember, and maybe I can try to share the moment I cherish by sharing the scent. Eventhough the person may not be led to the particular moment of mine as i intended, as all the art does, I thought that the scent would bring the person to the moment she or he personally relates to.

 

Thus, I engraved a candle with  objects with scents that brings me to certain moments; popcorn, baby power, powder pact, old book, washed clothes and so on. Memories of my cherieshed moments were written in the scent sticks

 

<Final Project: in Detail>

 

Then I prepared a match sticks with the years and month since my birth to this year and month written on them which is 1991.04-2016.09.

 

This was because like every people who would hope for a good night dream before going to bed, I thought  if I write a certain date of my past with good memory which I have not written on the match stick yet, ignite with it the candle and go to sleep, maybe that night  the scent from the candle would bring me to a dream of the moment of the day.

I was happy to hear the critique that my project was a project that created  warmth, or interactive project that made people feel since that is the direction of art that I wish to take as I become an artist.

As I expand and develop with the further project and as an artist as well, I wish my further steps will give out various fragrances that will make people see, remember and dream the warmth.
