[Time] Project #2a : Single to Multiple

 

In the second project, the task was given to  create a single frame narrative that observe, capture and convey the past, present and future at a specific place in the form of  “photomontage” that explores and represents the experience of both passage of time and the occurrence of events. The project asked the students to use three different visual sources, two origianl or personal photographs and one other found image.

 

Upon receving the project and brainstorming through it, I tried to think of the best object that could convey the past, present and future. At last, I thought that trees were objects that captures past, present for once it is born and rooted on the ground, it starts to have its history, which is its past, and it exists now, the present, and it lives continuously, the future, for it is a living creature. Only when this tree is cut down and made into a object, which I represented as a tree chair, it is dead and no longer convey the future but only the present. For this reaseon, I decided to use the image of vine  and a tree chair I took when I was in Korea and a found image of iceberg which is another natural object that captures and  formed by the the significant amount of time.

 

<1st iteration  : Photomontage by hand>

In the first iteration, the photomontage was made by hand. By illustrating tree chair captured inside the iceberg and a vine growing from the iceberg which will hardly, if not never, happen in real life, I tried to express the amount of time that might have passed so that such an surreal happening might have occured.

<2nd iteration : Digital Photomontage>

The photomontage made in the 1st iteration was then made into digital version using photoshop
