[Time] Project #2b : Single to Multiple

In continuation of the single narrative produced in the project 2a as a point of departure, project 2b’s task was to expand it to multiple frame narrative. The result was expressed in a sequence of images that not only represent the connection to antecedent and subsequent spaces and events, but express the experiential dimensions of the passage of time.

By illustrating vine gradually growing from the iceberg and that keeps tree chair within, I tried to show the passage of time or flow of time, as well as the enormous amount of time beyond our understanding that might have passed so that such an surreal happening could happen. Moreover, by shifting the time into the past in which the tree chair was once in its original place, I tried to convey stories within, leaving the stories open to people who see the narratives to think about what made the chairs to end up in iceberg.

In the first part of the project, I thought that what matters the most were some key images that could convey the message and the meaning of the project and the other images inbetween them would just have a role of transition and have less importance. However throughout the project, I learned that  producing  multiple narrative and conveying a messages, meanings and stories within it was not simply making some significant or key images on the first and the last page and filling the space inbetween them. It was considering all the narrative images, why each of them are placed in that position,  illustrated in such a way and even spaced from other images in that amount. Time,which in this case I experienced through multiple narrative, was not, is not and will never be something that I can slice it and give different ratings of importance, for it is  linear and continuous quality. Indeed, what makes the story and the meaning in it was not a slice of ‘some’ images but time as a whole. Moreover, the project let me think further about the question how to invite audience to the abstract concepts conveyed in the artpieces, how to balance between  leaving a room for audience to think about the matter , puzzling the audience and  just failing to communicate with them. With the valuable lesson and another sensitive quality of time I learned of time, I hope to be more attentive toe very narratives I express
