Drawing/Imaging:Final Project Exercise #2: In Pursuit of Intersubjective Vistas

1.In Pursuit of Intersubjective Vistas

(Greek Goddess from my dream, blue waves from China, circles and red lines represents resonance)

I chose the phrase “Resonance” as my topic for this exercise. When I heard the explanation of resonance, I thought of oceans and waves immediately for reason. Maybe it is because that the resonance means the movement of sound and ideas which is similar to the oceans and waves. I chose the waves from my home country because I really miss my home in the past few months. And I also use some wavy lines and circles to represent sound, ideas and thoughts. Also, I had a dream about Greek goddess yesterday so I put the images of Greek goddess in this collage as objects to send and receive resonance.

FINAL PROJECT

“The Intonation of Alphabet”

Irin Wei

CONCEPT

I plan to create an installation based on the phrase “intonation of projection”. I think intonation is somehow related to people’s mouth so I decide to use mouth as my main character in this installation. And the tune in the music is also a part of intonation which are Do,Re,Mi,Fa,So,La,and Ti. I believe it will be interesting to related the tune in music with the alphabet in English. There are seven tunes so I chose seven letters from A to G to represent different tunes. Each letter stands for an object. I’ll use collage to put them together and express the idea of projection.

PROCEDURE

This piece will include 7 objects: mouth, apple, broccoli, cacao, dolphin, ear, flower, and galaxy.

The mouth will be the center of my work and the rest of the objects will be all painted around the mouth. This piece highlights the relationship between intonation and people’s mouth and this relationship is projected by painting.

IMAGERY

I will express my idea by using a collage with the objects I mentioned. I will make the photography of the mouth. Then I will paint the apple, broccoli, cacao, dolphin, ear, flower and galaxy with acrylic and place them around the mouth. There should be a focal point of mouth in my collage.

MATERIALS/METHODS OF ANALOG AND DIGITAL INTEGRATION.

I will use a combination of pencil drawing, acrylic paint, photos, Adobe Photoshop and collage.

I will take the picture of people’s mouth and then edit it in Adobe Photoshop. Also, I will print it out and cut it so it can be a frame. I will use pencil drawing first for sketches and then use acrylic paint to draw those objects. At last, I will put them together into one collage.

COLOR APPLICATION

I will use combinations of primary colors and the original color of the seven objects. And I’ll paint my background black so it will be more strong.

REFERENCES/SOURCES/CITATIONS

I am inspired by the photography by Irving Pann. It is Photographed for a story in Vogue on cosmetic surgery, Bee (1995) shows Irving Penn exploring the phrase “bee-stung lips” with stunning results.
