Morphed Paintings

First painting: Realistic still life from observation.

Second painting: From the first to the second, I decided to ‘morph’ the painting by painting in a much looser way, putting my focus on shadow and light rather than on form. As such, I feel like this painting turned up to be much more abstract than and infused with a kind of energy not found in the first painting.

Third painting: For the final painting, I decided that I wanted it to be vastly different from the first two. As such, I decided to create an imaginary figure, inspired by shapes found in the still life paintings. The bottom of the mythical figure came from the exaggerated cloth in the front of the second painting as it almost reminded me of tentacles. Meanwhile the shape of one of the vases was copied nearly exactly to form part of her dress. Parts of her headdress were then inspired by the glass of water in the earlier paintings, as I tried to emulate a similar shape and lighting.
