Wire Shoe

I started making the wire shoe by tracing the base of the shoe and continued going from the bottom to the top of the shoe.

There were a few realizations which helped me during the process:

1. Using more of the pliers and less with my actual hands, improved my execution and made the lines more clean.

2. The strength of the connections between the wires is based mostly on how tight the connection is an not how thick it is.

3. While I was working I found out that it’s very crucial to continue working from all angles and to constantly turn the shoe around.

After completing the shoe I realized how important it is to choose the right material. I found out that although all of the shoes were made out of wire, they had different characteristics. I think choosing black wire for my shoe helped me capture the the atmosphere of the shoe and it’s use as a sneaker. The black wire made the sculpture look like an ink sketch and helped bring a certain vibrance to the shoe that couldn’t have happen with aluminum wire or copper.

My favorite shoe was Angel’s shoe. First, I loved it since it was very different from the shoe which I made. The lines were sharp, the connections between the wires were minimal and the trick the she did with the removable tongue was very smart. The general result was very aesthetic and clear.
