Final Narrative Based Editorial – Fashion Illustration

I was inspired by Grace Jones’ album Nightclubbing. I was interested in the rhythm of the city that is expressed in her work, the intense sounds of New York. Grace Jones is one of the biggest icons to me, her harsh attitude, her ability to be masculine and feminine at the same time and the way she uses her body as an element of self-expression. In my editorial, I focused on the feeling of excitement and anticipation before one gets into a club, fantasizing on how the night is going to look. I tried to take New York 80’s fashion like it was seen in clubs such as Studio 54 and create a contemporary adaptation that would fit today’s New York woman.

Lyrics: Nightclubbing

Nightclubbing we’re nightclubbing
We’re what’s happening
Nightclubbing we’re nightclubbing
We’re an ice machine
We see people brand new people
They’re something to see
When we’re nightclubbing
Bright-white clubbing
Oh isn’t it wild?
Nightclubbing we’re nightclubbing
We’re walking through town
Nightclubbing we’re nightclubbing
We walk like a ghost
We learn dances brand new dances
Like the nuclear bomb
When we’re nightclubbing
Bright white clubbing
Oh isn’t it wild . .
