Complexities – Seminar

Video reflections

As I was watching these, it reminded me of some previous reading I had done on housing discrimination. Nothing too major just some old highschool lessons, but what I learned from those it that housing discrimination and struggles in the past have roots in slavery. As does poverty. I feel I am able to connect housing rights, poverty, and gentrification as this complex history that it all interconnected. In the video about the Chicago heat weave, it is explained well how it is all connected. And how it is connected to the deaths concerning the heat wave. Because lower class houses were more at risk, and this housing situation begins much farther than when these people moved into that neighborhood it almost doesn’t classify as natural. This could have been prevented but it wasn’t, you could shift blame to places and people.
