Introduction
In Identities in America, we’ll be exploring the experiences of those who identify with more than one culture as they live their day to day life in the United States. We’ll talk about the languages they speak, tier story coming to know them, as well as the struggles and rewards that come from speaking a non-dominant language in the the US. We’l compare their identities both in the home and outside, and consider whether sharing a cultural identity has an impact on a person’s relationships with those around them. In the end we’ll come to know these peoples’ experiences as it relates to a non-dominant cultural background and how they themselves reflect on that.
We hope that by listening to our podcast, you may be able to find likeness to some of our subjects or understand their stories more clearly than before. Above all, we hope to promote cultural awareness and respect for people across the world. Enjoy.
