Digital Tools: Bridge 2: Art Catalog

For our second bridge project, we had to create a Catalog/Book that included several small things we had created including the mockup exhibition photos, the mailer/poster, and the email invite, as well as images of our own artwork. We also had to design a front and back cover for the book. This project felt like it took a very long time just because of all the individual steps.

The first step of the catalog was to create my mockup exhibition photos. In order to do this I had to go out in to New York City and choose a location that I felt I could use to digitally add my artwork. After visiting multiple locations, I decided to choose the Hudson Pier, and took pictures of one of the many warehouses on the pier.

From there, I then chose 5 pieces of my art and placed them on the different pictures I choose of my location.

The next step for the catalog was to design the Mailer/Poster. We first had to create a Typography Identity, including our fonts we would use for our heading, sub-heading, body copy, caption, and pull quote. We also had to include our three font colors, as well as a brief history on the fonts we chose. We then had to design a logo that we felt worked with our chosen fonts and colors.

The next step was laying out the entire project. For the mailer, we had one front page, two inside pages, one back page, and then the poster was on the opposite side of the mailer.

After this, I had to create my email invite. I wanted the E-vite to have a similar feeling and layout as the mailer/poster yet be its own individual piece. I used one of the exhibition pieces and used the description from my poster.

Once all these things were created, I had to lay them all out into a book. Each individual design piece was placed to the back, with the artwork itself taking the front seat. I also created a design that I used on each page of the book.

Overall I feel that I did a good job on this project. I think that each individual piece I designed could work well on it’s own, but at the same time they definitely feel like they are all part of a group.
