Unpaid Internship Grant

Company: Grace Exhibition Space

Type of work: Manager and Rental Coordinator

Where did you find the internship? Through an existing relationship with Grace space

Would you recommend it for other Lang students? Yes, in large part because of the course you are required to take with Jenna Campolita. I think basically no matter what your internship is that course is worth it.

Internship Description: Working at Grace space was a wonderful opportunity to get engaged in the performance art community in New York. Due to the niche it fits in, it’s not a culture with a lot of financial backing, so getting support through lang allowed me to engage fully without having to worry about that.

Who was supporting you in your work? How did you work with them? Jenna Campolita helped so much particularly with the transition and confidence in asking for employment and negotiating wages.

How has this project has been impactful or transformative — for you personally or for those this work has impacted: Helping artists create their ideal performances and working in tandem with them on realizing those performance was an incredibly gratifying and fulfilling experience.

What would you do differently? How would you advise a student who is going to do something similar? Honestly not much, I think most of the things that went wrong or tricky in my internship were low stakes and taught me a lot about self advocacy

How is the internship connected to your work? The technical aspects of my job and artist communication have drastically helped both my work experience as an AV technician and also my artistic practice as a curator and projectionist.
