Spending some time in the American Museum of Natural History, the Hall of Ornithischian Dinosaurs, I sketched out two drawings with graphite pencils of a dinosaur of our choosing. I blindly drew the contour of the skeleton of a T-rex with a 6B pencil, without lifting the pen off the paper, as well as an observational line drawing. For both of my drawings, I made use of bold, darker lines for the areas that were closer to me and lighter, faded lines of areas that were farther away.
Having to erase the layout several times, I struggled a little with the proportion of the T-rex. I would also say that it was hard to replicate the skeleton completely accurate since the bones were all extremely dense. But overall, I did well in terms of showing volume and depth in my second piece, the observational line drawing. I was able to show the distance of each of the skeleton through light and heavy lines. I was also proud that I was able to draw each bone clearly and accurately. On the other hand, I could improve on making the drawing look more organic rather than an animated by distributing the use of the thick lines. Now, it looks as if the image is somewhat flat due to the strong, continuous thick lines. I could’ve also added more simple line textures on the bones for more depth and more realistic.
