Artist Statement
I incorporate ordinary objects into my artworks that people are often exposed to and are familiar with. The constant exposures to these common objects have lead us to put a halt to our innate curiosities, stopping us from asking questions on matters and objects that are right in front of us. Our minds are deceived by our own eyes: it is not just what it is. We are so used to accepting what is given to us and not inserting our own opinions, interpretations and creativity. I aim to divert from how we normally perceive things, which hopefully have the potential to expand our perceptions on matters. With all the social media and advertisements, commercial industries have successfully rewired our minds, narrowing our perceptions and making it easier to manipulate our way of thinking. The notion of absolute freedom may just be a theory as we have no complete control of the decisions we make.
Essay on Color Psychology in Packaging
- Drafting/Proposal
First Proposal
Playing with the idea of subliminal messages in branding, I would choose a couple of logos and visually reveal the subliminal pictures within the icon either by using a different medium, bringing it out of the page, exaggerating it…
Second Proposal
I would be focusing on the relationship between color and packaging and how it is being used and how it impacts consumers. Using a well known product alike red bull or coca cola and use cut paper as my main medium along with hand drawn illustrations. I would be cutting out the product to reveal the “content of the beverage”. The colors in packaging have a huge impact in how we see the products, what we expect and how we would feel once we consume.
Third Proposal
A similar concept from the second proposal: what we see outside is different from what is inside. I would have the packaging placed in the middle, using cut paper to illustrate the differences between what we expect from the packaging and what is actually inside and how it would make us feel.
