Media Journal Summary

Media

Keeping a media journal for the past five days was an interesting experience, but the results of my journals are in no way surprising. I define media as any constructed environment, sound, or image. Over the course of the last year I have become hyper conscious of my media intake, I do not filter intake from the world but have began the practice of mentally logging the information around me. This journal assignment was an extension of a practice I already did for myself so I thoroughly enjoyed the process and getting to re-read the collected data. It was hard to actively write down all that was around me because information comes in so quickly, there aren’t many times of the day where I found myself free from my journal and mentally relaxed. In my journal there are notes of many things that I don’t believe people notice have an effect on them. On the first few days I spent much time out in the city traveling to museums and all throughout my travel and even when I was at said places I was going, there was media to be written about. The walls of New York are covered in Print Media trying to sell products, dreams and ideologies to your subconscious. It was interesting to be intaking these images while listening to my playlists and enjoying time on my phone, I was intaking media from multiple sources at the same time. The most important thing about my media intake is taking the time to stop and allow my brain to think for itself, I constantly consume and need to be putting out more of my own thoughts.
