I thought that the walk was really inspiring. It made me think about sound in a different way, and showed just how powerful it could be. It was really weird to hear noises and then not be able to tell what was outside and what was inside my headphones. At one point while a band was playing in the recording, I realized that because pop the headphones I was having a completely different experience than the people around me. It was really interesting how the footprints kept us in pace with the recording, the use of volume was really intentional. When the pace was set, the volume of the footprints would go down and your mind would block it out but it wasn’t needed to keep us on pace. She talked about a lot of the timeless aspects of Central Park, about the zoo, landscape, people walking. At one point she mentioned a woman with a baby in a stroller and I looked up and saw a baby. It really freaked me out and surprised me but at the same time made me see time in a different way. When she played recordings from different time periods, the ones from the past worked really well with the way aspects of the park were constructed. I remember looking and seeing an arch made of bricks and genuinely feeling like I had gone back in time. I can’t wait to take friends who visit on the walk, I texted them excited once we left the park.
