How our intention being Conveyed? (bridge 2) Int. Sem

We were trying to physically construct the protection circle that people unintentionally create around them with their peripheral vision. This vision circle is supposed to not only prevent being bombed by people while looking at phones walking but also avoid possible socializing when you are not in the mood of or anti-social. Out design will “protect” the user by “attacking” others. its reticular even ironic usage is a sign to warn people what a passive gesture we, human being have developed to adapt technology. By using actions to perform the two gestures that people are not aware of, everyone can clearly distinguish two people group who are troubled because of walking with phones. This design is design to avoid problem instead of solving it, which in other words is extending the problem.

Our design can convey our intention in its aesthetic look, its integration with user and effector, its gesture involving the whole body and the intention is proved working in our promotional video of a public experiment. We design the color of the belt to be red and black— —red as a warning, black as camouflage. We put googly eyes around the circle to represent eyes that do the work for you to look. We made the design a belt to make it interact with people’s waist, spine and hip, because we think that those parts are where we express confidence, the circle will be your comfort zone and social circle and present the most confident part out to the public. Also by putting it near the wist, users are forced to move their whole body to react, which extend and clarify the gesture. Our promotional video records people’s reaction towards this design, some were appraised because of its beauty, some were raged because it takes large space and makes surround troubled to go through. Our fresh pure public experiment successfully captures people’s reaction to reflect how ironic and ridiculous these gestures are, therefore conveys the critical message towards technology over controls us.
