Project Description: How we changed the painting
Our group decided to create a Tableaux Vivant for the Painting, “The Lovers”, by René Magritte. We changed the story behind the painting drastically. At first sight, the original painting is very subtle and sweet, a couple kissing each other naturally indicates romance and peace. But their covered faces allow a sense of mystery and restrictiveness to the viewer, and from there we got inspired. We created a tragic, horrific story behind a subtle and sweet painting that blows viewers’ mind. Our tableaux vivant consists of a dark horror film where the characters from the original painting are on a fake date which ends up with the woman killing the man. This Tableaux Vivant might be interpreted in many ways, as a social commentary on blind dates, on how love blinds you, or how you never get to know someone for real, how people are always wearing masks, living in the fake world. Our video ended with an open end to let the audience imagine the story behind, so our version has also mixed some audiences’ imagination within.

My Experience in Working Collaboratively:
Working in teams means that we have more workforce and more ideas generated, however, it also means more management, more arguments. From working in 2 to working in 5, has pushed me to learn how to be a leader. To manage time, arrange positions for everyone, take everyone’s ideas and fairly create the final idea. We had a lot of obstacles during this project, such as voting our final version of the story or rearrange positions towards emergency changes. But after solving all these obstacles together, I felt more closed to my teammates, and I am looking forward to having future cooperation with them.
PLEASE ENJOY!
THE LOVERS.
