A Monument for the Food Vendors

The value that we want to take out from the story the appreciation of strong women who work in the food vendors replacing men. The monument is a box full of caps that can be taken by, wore by and interacted by the viewers. The Monument will be set up in the space of protest in Union Square between the stairs. It will be a protesting monument because it spreads out a positive and encouraging message instead of sad ones that memorials do. It will be made of aluminum foil, a material similar to the foil that vendors assistants use to wrap the food, to indicate the group of people this monument is for– the vendor assistants; as well symbolizes the hardworking women– although valuable but still strongly and gently holds everything together.

This protest will be host unnoticeably while noticeably. Walking is the main activity in NYC, so wearing the hat and walking across the food truck raises awareness of the protest, the assistant sees it and feels the support and warmth, and the crowds can recognize the “secret” protest and enlarge the supporting group.

A monument doesn’t have to be in a form of a statue, it can be a concept or even a fashionable wearing.
