Reflection on seminar class

Reflection

Seminar class on this semester brought me to more understanding of visual culture both in class, community and global circumstance. The class offers ma as a student, experiences both as a individual and a member during group work to absorb the cultures that are not only images but also in forms of expression, of designs in architecture to fashion and in social media through examining, analyzing, critiquing, and producing both in class and outside the class. The thing that surprised me and at the same time challenged me the most would be the curriculum of the class. Reading were the only thing that matter but in my seminar class but this class, both professor and the curriculum engage me to discuss and share what’s in my head. Public speaking or just saying something in front of classmates or people has been my all time challenge, so seeing in this class also helps me to have more confidence by slowly breaking me out from my quiet comfort zone. I enjoyed having this class combined with studio class as it brought dynamic combination and cross over of materials, methods, concepts, and subjects that may challenge the boundaries in traditions. Especially in our final SA assignment, it gives me freedom to experience the culture of one community which in this case was MOMA and connect it with the context that your interested in which I chose the global topic, Climate change. By working on the final product and manifesto, it didn’t only reflect the varied and changing culture of the chosen context in term of beliefs, identity and values but also reflect my own identity, answer my questions ; what I really want to do, what I want to major, create, enjoy, change and pursue in life. It allowed me to express my personal experiences, opinions and interpretations and see how my classmates or viewers reacted and respond to my definitions of culture.
