C1: Bridging Difference

  • Written concept thesis for your project

How can very different parts come into connection? How do we respect and connect across social/ecological difference? Make an interactive object to enable connection between you and another different being.

When giving the upper questions, the first person I could think about was my mom. She was always a powerful woman doing her best to make me into a healthy and happy person. The connection between me and my mom can be considered as a mom or as a friend. She treats me as a child and always think I am too young to expose to the sophisticated society. In this way, I felt I am still a young and naive baby laying in her womb. Beyond her protection, I found I am 100% dependent on her even as a young adult. She always shares her interests with me and tell me which song she recently heard or which movie she got fascinated. I, as a good listener, accept all her interests and try to know more about her. My mom, also, asks me young children’s trend. She is now adapting wearing hoodies rather than women blowers. We both change ourself and try to know more about each others life. The connection with our mind is the reason why we are getting along so well. Overall, my concept was conveying me and my mother’s relationship both biologically and mentally.

  • Sketches and process models

At the beginning, I made few sketches for brainstormings.

Then I came up with an idea in making a two person hoodie with mask.

  • Clear scaled drawings showing attachment methods, materials and critical dimensions (with a clean layout, using line weights, clear annotations)
  • Photo or video documentation of your process (Prototype)
  • Clear, stylized, portfolio-ready photo or video documentation of the finished final object, both by itself and in interaction
  • Written reflection of the project, process and lessons learned, connecting it all back to your selected text.

After doing this project, I found three things that I have to work with.

  1. I have to make sure to represent my theme more clearly.
  2. Time management. The prototype was made a bit late.
  3. Measure twice and make more precise products. The mask I made between two hoodies was distorted somewhat.
