Day 1, September 22
Going to the karaoke was a interesting but definitely fun experience. We went to Karaoke 35 for an hour and laughed so much. At first I felt sorry for Manci. Then I felt sorry for myself for embarrassing myself in front of her. The fact that she can sing made me very insecure because I never sing in front of anyone. Honestly, Manci is one of the cutest human being. She kept encouraging me to sing and to not be shy in front of her which made me feel better and more relaxed. We found out that the only sing we could sing together was ‘Rolling in the deep’ by Adele.
Day 2, September 23
When I first heard that we have to cook for each other I felt sorry for Manci again. I can’t cook and didn’t want her to get food poisoning so I tried to make the only dish tat I can do without burning the roof off which is traditional tomato egg. To be honest at fist I thought it was going to be a long night however, our cooking night came to a quick end. I guess time really does fly when you are having fun. She made me teriyaki chicken which is way more advanced than my tomato egg. Surprisingly, my tomato egg turned out pretty good and she told me it was one of the best tomato egg she has ever had. The 36 questions were definitely challenging. By the end of the questions both me and my partner felt we were exposed because both of us usually keep to ourselves and don’t share our problems with anyone. It was interesting how much similarities we have in common and I am happy that I got a chance to get to know her better.
The pictures show the cooking, dinner and the last bite of our cooking session. Fun fact: there was only coconut oil at her suite so all the dishes tasted like coconut.
Day 3, September 24
1.She used a pair of Adidas sneakers as a media to convey her strength and emotions and to implement her desires like running or dancing. The high top looks like armours to her which gives her protection for keeping her fit.
2. The mole is positive, sensitive, humorous and embracing. It’s not beautiful but rather unique and lovely. She thinks this fully represents other people’s opinion about her.
3. The two postcards represent the way she perceive’s herself as a tiny mouse in a big and colourful world while the funny looking skeleton patterns well represent that she really enjoy humorous and amiable details in life.
4. It reminds her of her mother. She is a careful person who always like keeping things clean and neat. He hand is sensitive so she always wear a pair of rubber gloves while doing chores.
5. She loves cheesecake. She thinks it’s one of the most common stereotypes when it comes to the US.
6. Manci loves collecting antique stuff, especially jewellery and is obsessed with well-made techniques in art. She collects high-quality vintages that are valuable and meaningful for her own pleasure.
7. She was a bold girl. She tried to fulfill whatever she wanted to acquire wether by creating something or or imagination. In the picture she tried one flower on each end of the long towel, imagining that it was her own hair because wanted to keep her long hair but her mom didn’t her let.
8. Manci turned 19 the day we went to this shop! She wants to be passionate and kind-hearted which the red hair represents it perfectly. The mermaid represents that she also wants to be a brave and smart explorer.
9. She feels seen when she is under the starry sky. Every time she looks at the stars she would understand that she has a life long passion and admiration for nature. She finds it as one of her great values.
10. Her favourite place is the dessert shop! Whenever she goes in she feels like she has escaped from all of her problems in life. She enjoys the sweetness, the way she huddles into the sofa and become ‘invisible’.
Day 4, September 25
Day 5, September 26
I chose to make a bracelet for Manci because during the this five day dating session I learnt how much dancing means to her. She told me whenever she dances she has to wear a lot of bracelets because they add weight to her arms. She gains strength and energy from dancing. I wanted to make something meaningful that would remind her of herself. This was made with wire as a base structure then added sheer ribbon around the wire to define the structure and add some elegancy.
