Prototype

The bike prototype exemplifies how a customized bike should look like. My illustration of a regular bike would give the audience the opportunity to modify it to suit their own lifestyle. I customized how a homeless and person with lesser means ‘s bike would look like , whereby I encased in a skin of plastic or rubberized fabric stretched across a rectangular shaped cage. The wire cage contains three different metal tunnels within to create a long tunnel which serves as a sleeping pen once opened.

While asking the audience to engage with my project and express how they experienced it, there immediate reaction was of fascination, curiosity, and impressiveness. One of the main people I derived input from was from a dear friend who has a background in mechanical engineering, and who comes from a long line of family members specializing in the field. I resorted to his expertise and insight in specific because he himself has delved into intricate and complex mechanical designs for a few well known Fortune 500 automative companies.  His biggest recommendation was that I focus on the bike design from the consumer’s vantage point.  In others words ,catering to a wide variety of income brackets.  For example , targeting people with lower incomes and the homeless , I would still be able to  preserve quality safety and durability of the bike prototype by obtaining materials much cheaper economically and resorting to organizations and foundations  who receive private and public donations of material goods including financial resources. For people with a much more sustainable and consistent income , the accessibility of material goods towards the prototype would be far less challenging to create and design but might be received with both delight and equal finickiness since people with higher financial means tend to have fuller range and the privilege to be choosier. He explained that these are just of the realities we face in this world. I appreciated his response since it was coming from an invaluable, knowledgeable and experienced place.  A sense of encouragement and motivation dawned on me. Overall , the majority of my audience loved the concept of modifying and creating their very own customized bikes for a lifestyle personal to them. Even though they had not quite experienced customizing their own bike, they were still able to envision it clearly and deciphered the purpose of the cage, which serves as a resting pit by utilizing basic human instinct and modes of survival.

During my experimentation, the only hinderance I faced abit with my prototype was the fact that the audience weren’t able to see their own customized bikes turn into fruition as of yet. However , from an advantageous view point , my prototype serves as an ideal model and a “how to” guide , if you will , which would compliment my final project very well. It’s an exciting method of passing down instructions rather than having to merely read something verbatim and observe the audience lose attention , focus, and interest.

Currently I am satisfied with the way the prototype turned out, and I aim to make the final one the same way, with, of course, many more options to choose from so that the audience have variety. I am , on the other hand, abit concerned with the challenge of time constraints and it’s necessity in order to create different types of genres, so therefore I may have to limit the amount. As of now, my positive sentiments haven’t changed since the inception of my project.  I find the entire endeavor to be highly interactive, exhilarating, mentally and physically stimulating, as well as an overall fun experience to exert my energy onto
