Project 4 drawing and imaging

My wallpaper and Mural was inspired from the story “Open City”. What I did was read through the article and grasped words that stood out to me the most. I wrote them down on my sketch book with the colors that I thought would best represent them. And since we had to come up with 5 ideas/sketches, I thought it would be a good idea for me to derive 5 themes from the list of words. Once I picked those themes I then decided to combine them all together into one creative design through illustrator. I decided to create these patterns of different shades of blue to represent the theme of tranquility, and then transitioning into darker shades of reds to represent red moods (activism) in the article. Once I was satisfied with the patterns on illustrator, I printed it out and started drawing in patterns with a black marker to give it a different sense of medium and feel to it, other than the fact that it was actually much easier creating it by hand than it is digitally. I drew mountains and birds in a very abstract way to. And once I was done, and because I thought murals usually have this repitition to them, I then decided to scan my design and create a mirror/reflection effect. I created several of them and then finally stuck with this one. I thought it was comprised of all the 5 themes ; migration, freedom, tranquility, isolation and perspective.
