Daily Mapping

As someone who has lived in the countryside for more than a decade, moving to the city was a big city for me. I was excited and curious about all the new things, but at the same time, the change felt intense and overwhelming; It almost felt as if I was lost in space. The words of the newspaper are flipped upside down to describe the feeling of being lost. The eyes seem to hold many emotions — curiosity, excitement, tiredness, awareness, etc. — that went on simultaneously as I tried to adapt to the changes.

After moving to New York, home has now become a place like fantasy. It is always somewhere in my mind but hard to reach. The composition of different smiling faces of people illustrate the happy memories and the emotions that word home brings.

Being from the countryside, the most drawing smell in New York is definitely the smell of trash. The emphasis of this collage is on the rough texture of the trash. This distracts the audience from the beauty that the nature offers.

On Saturday, I went out for a whole day with some of my friends and I’ve realized how undoubtedly expensive living cost is in New York. It seemed as there was a big black hole in my wallet sucking up all my money. I wanted to show this idea through the repetition of receipts I received as I stayed in New York.

First week of school was exhausting and overwhelming so I allowed myself a free lazy day on Sunday. On this day, I let myself do and eat anything I want without any hesitation or any worries about school. The different wrappers on this collage describe how I spent my cheat day.

You go through different emotions and sensations simultaneously in your dream, and over time, they become fuzzier and fuzzier. I wanted to portray this weird phenomenon using different patterns and bright colors. The purpose of the clear plastic bag is to show the fuzziness.
