Bridge I Part II

“What If” artwork:

For this project, were were assigned to create an artwork inspired by a “What If” question to one of our photos from Bridge I Part I. I chose a photo of a Chinese traditional architecture in the middle of modern buildings in New York City and Ilse’s question of “What if you put NY city buildings in a traditional setting?”

For my “What if” artwork, I photoshopped New York City skyscrapers into a Korean/ Chinese traditional landscape painting. The combination of two different landscapes depict my theme of mixing two different cultures.

The signifiers in my finished artwork are the modern buildings that signify where I currently live and the traditional landscape which depict where I came from.

I would expect this artwork to be exhibited in in the MOMA due to the usage of modern technology and modern concept to construct this artwork.

What I learned from this project/ making activity was my finished artwork can also illustrate a different theme when created in different medium. When I’ve completed this artwork, I realized it can also depict the theme of environment and how modern architecture is taking away the beauty of our nature. I’ve also learned how to better use the different features on Photoshop.

The medium was successful at supporting the content because the photoshop allowed me to blend in one landscape into the other really well.

What I learned about my content through this medium exploration was that by using different materials or mediums, I can depict other themes as well as still showing the original theme.
