Transparent Illusion

For the transparent illusion, I was assigned to design 5 stickers that would be placed on a window. The purpose of this assignment was use to create sticker designs on illustrator and to thoroughly think about their placements so that they would be well integrated into the background.

I started this assignment by first drawing out sticker designs on my sketchbook. I made sure to create more than 5 so that I could choose the best ones for the scenery.

Then, I created prototype on acetates. In this step of the process, I first selected a window that I liked, and with one of my eyes closed for more accuracy, I traced the scenery on to the acetate. Then, I went back to include how the stickers would fit into it. I drew the scenery with two sticker included on the first acetate and the rest of the sticker designs on the second acetate.

Next, I used illustrator to draw out the sticker designs. I took photos of my prototype and traced them on the illustrator using pen took.

Finally, I sent the file to the design lab where they printed out the stickers for me. I used a total of 28×3 clear sticker paper. I placed these stickers on the window of my preference and took pictures. Taking the pictures was probably the most challenging part if I had to choose, because I had to precisely take photos in a certain angle for the stickers to fit just right.

My concept of the stickers was to add fun in the everyday boring life setting by adding these fictional characters. I wanted peers to feel like they were watching a fun movie as they were staring at this particular window. My main goal was for the stickers to well blend into the scenery and make people laugh. I am really satisfied with how the outcome has turned out. I think by balancing out the heaviness of the sticker lines, I was able to make the stickers stand out, and by putting them in certain locations and angles, I was able to fit the stickers into the scenery just right.
