Cross Sectional Lecture Assignment Becky James

In the list of the things that I’ve heard from the lecture, the most intriguing topic, was the rotoscope animation where the artist traces over real images to create realistic animation. The example that was shown was the animation about the Texas University shooting, Tower. Throughout the animation, it constantly went from real footages of newspapers and images to the rotoscope animation, allowing the audience to experience the similar physical experience that the victims and the witnesses of the tragedy went through. Also, it was interesting how they chose to display the animation with only black and white. The absence of color helped the audience feel the mood of the scene. Even without any colors, it was interesting to see how the animation was able to catch its realistic aspect by tracing over real footages. In my future projects, I would like to incorporate this technique where I use the combination of animation and real footages to evoke the mood and the realness.
